About

My family and I on a hike at Chaco Canyon

Originally from Alberta, Canada, I’ve called the US home since high school, and I live in Gallup, New Mexico, with my wife and two children. My career as a librarian is deeply informed by my previous decade as a middle school English teacher. My current work as a Youth Services Librarian–managing youth collections and developing diverse programming for ages 0-18–brings together my passions for reading, teaching, libraries, and technology.

I hold a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Alberta. My graduate studies included elective courses in web design, HTML, CSS, and database management, which sparked a passion for web development. This interest in technology extends to being a big Linux fan, and I’m always looking for ways to dabble in web development and other tech projects. I have been heavily involved in the development of my library’s makerspace, and have developed skills in fabrication with tools such as plot cutters, 3D printers, and laser engravers, as well as creating educational programming around these tools.

When I’m not at the library or at my computer, you can find me enjoying my hobbies. I love reading, hiking in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico, and planning my next backpacking trip. Music is also a huge part of my life; I play the guitar and am a member of a local Celtic folk band called the Desert Highlanders.
